How to Brew Gourmet Coffee

If you do not know how to brew coffee, you will waste your precious coffee, and regardless of the coffee you buy, your coffee will never taste good. In order to brew the best gourmet coffee for you and your guess, you need to take in consideration the following key elements.

·        Should be sweetened

Coffee is like cocoa; the best flavor is experienced when it is sweetened. It can be sweetened in many different ways; each will yield a small flavor variation. Use the sweetener of your choice: sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, Equal, Same etc. Coffee can also be sweetened with flavored syrups. Flavored syrups can give the advantage of flavoring only the cup of coffee that you want to flavor and leaving the rest unflavored.

The types of grain in combination to the kind of roast are elements that control the strength of the coffee. Coffee brewed from a coarse grind develops a light very smooth flavor. As the grain becomes finer, the coffee becomes stronger in flavor. Fine grind permits a deeper extraction of the flavors. Using fine-grained coffee also allows more brewed coffee with less amount of coffee.

A coffee with a certain type of grain can have different types of roast. A dark roast has a deeper flavor than a regular or a light roast. A dark roast brings out more of the complex and appealing flavors inside a coffee bean. Therefore the type of roast gives coffee different variations in strength and flavor.

·        Freshness

The best cup of coffee comes from fresh coffee, ground or in whole beans. To keep coffee fresh, store it in an airtight container at room temperature. It is also convenient to grind coffee right before brewing it. Coffee beans stay fresh longer and can maintain the aroma. If you like to grind your own coffee, try warming up the coffee beans on a coking pan before grinding.

Finally after reviewing all these elements you are ready to brew coffee.

Automatic drip brewer: Start with one tablespoon of ground coffee for each five ounces of water. You can add hot water to your cup if this is too strong for you.

Espresso machine: Start with one and a half tablespoon per 5 oz of water.
